Pediatric spaying is now a trend in the United States, where millions of unwanted dogs and cats had to be put down or euthanised after failing to be re-homed. This procedure is carried out mainly on puppies age 4-12 weeks -old. Many years of research has indicated that it is a safe approach. However there remain some critics.

Fig. 1 Healing is extremely fast in these puppies.

Fig. 2 The reproductive tract is very small and under-developed. This is an advantage actually. Bleeding is minimal and complication is rare. However some are concern about anaethetic risk and the vaccination status. Long term benefits out weighs these risks. Newer anaethetics have further reduce thses risks.
Why is Pediatric Spaying a widely accepted practice nowadays even in the Uited States and Europe?
Animal shelters worldwide believe that it is the only effective method to prevent over-population of strays or unwanted dogs and cats. They have adopted a "Neuter then Adopt Policy" or NAP which guarantees that the new owner is relieved from this responsibility.
